The New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer season has ended, but the buzz about all the backstage action is still going strong! We are bringing you an exclusive behind the scenes look into the world of hair and makeup for the Irina Vitjaz Show. The talent behind the beautiful hair and makeup was none other than New York-based celebrity hairstylist Christo! All of the hair products used for this show were actually from Christo’s own line Curlisto. The founder’s philosophy is simple, “Provide clients with the flexibility to wear curly hair the way they want and choose to; that is why Curlisto was created.” But -Curlisto® Styling products aren’t just a NY staple, they have been used for various backstage/fashion events, movie and TV film sets including: Amazon Studios’ Mozart in the Jungle, The Michael J. Fox Show on NBC, and TV series: Lost, Heroes, Person of Interest, Gotham and The Bluff!

When asked about the overall look that they were going for the hair guru stated they, “Went for a clean, translucent look that compliments Irina Vitjaz’s collection, but does not distract from the whole look. Since the hair was more of a vintage pin up look, we had a very clean face with a nude lip, ending with a slight dramatic cat eye.”

The hair was amazing it was a classic 1940’s look: Victory rolls up top with a low ponytail with curls on the bottom. When asked about what product helped to make this often challenging hairstyle come together he said he couldn’t do it without one of his, “Favorite styling products, Lotion Plus. [It] was used on every model. A nickel size of Lotion Plus helps the blow out to result in smooth, shiny hair.” We couldn’t agree more! Smooth hair is key, you cannot achieve classic pinup hair if you have frizziness galore!

As for the makeup, a myriad of lines such as: Manna Kadar, MAC, and Make Up For Ever were used. You all know we are makeup junkies here, so of course when we saw MAC and Make Up For Ever we swooned just a little! The skin looked radiant the team using a minimalist approach. There was no heavy contour, overabundance of highlight, or bright swatches of blush. The eyes lent themselves to that black winged eyeliner that we all know and love, pinup in every sense of the word!

According to Christo, “It is so important that the beauty and hair creations should be balanced out and perfectly coordinated with the designer’s couture collection.” We couldn’t agree more! Christo and his team were able to bring to life the vision that the designer had for the hair and makeup looks associated with her collection. That is one of the hardest challenges facing any hair and makeup team, and we think Christo and his fantastic team took on the challenge and nailed it!

If you want to know how to get that classic pinup hair look, Christo was kind enough to detail the steps for us he used to create it!

Victory Rolls 101:
-Once hair has been fully blown out, tame flyaways with a dab of Unruly Paste +.
-Begin by separating the hair into 2 sections from ear to ear.
-The back section will be combed into a neat ponytail.
-With the front, loose section, you will begin teasing from back to the front in order to volumize the hair and keep your victory roll in place.
-Starting with a roll and a slight tuck, begin your roll from the back and move slowly towards the front to get that vintage look.
-Secure the victory roll with bobby pins and repeat these steps again for your next victory roll.
-Spray the whole look with Curlisto’s Shaping Spray. Shaping spray is definitely your friend for this style.
-Use a few spritz of Curlisto’s Glow & Shine for that final shimmer to your style.
