My hair and I have a history. This may sound obvious, of course I have had this hair every since I was a child, but truly every chapter of my life has been accompanied by a style. Whether it was my days of 13 year old blonde highlights, hours spent with the flattening iron or a very unfortunate blunt bang, I could easily track my growth through photographs of me and my hair. There have been triumphs and failures but I have learned a few very important lessons along the way, and in the end, I wouldn’t want my hair to be anything other than what it is.

1. Your Comb Is Your Best Friend: There was a long time where I used to brush my hair and then wonder why it looked like a hay stack once it dried. Use a wide tooth comb, your curls will thank you.

2. You Do Not Have To Shampoo Every Day: In fact, you really do not need to shampoo at all but if you are going to do it, do it every other day max!

3. That Flattening Iron Is Going to Be The Death of You, And Your Hair: There is nothing inherently wrong with straightening your hair if that is something that you want to do, but don’t do it everyday, and always use a heat protectant serum before you put your hair under the iron!

4. It’s Usually Better To Go Natural: Stick straight, bleach blonde, you should be allowed to style your hair at your own bliss, but at the end of the day, your hair is your hair and you should always be able to wear it with pride.

5. When It Comes Right Down To It, You Wouldn’t Ever Want Any Other Type Of Hair: Curls take time and patience, but when you finally get them to cooperate, they are always gorgeous.
