Curls tend to be the most sensitive hair texture and that can be can be especially true when it comes to color. Since curly hair tends to be dry, oftentimes the chemicals in the dye can strip away even the barest layer of moisture leaving curls brittle, frizz prone and overall unhealthy. That’s not to say you shouldn’t color your hair at all, when done right, colorful curls can be just as captivating and striking as any other colored strand. You just have to know the right way to go about it. Luckily, Christo is here for you. We have compiled a few tips to keep in mind as you follow through on your color journey. Be mindful of the following when you book your next appointment.

1. Not every color is going to be the color for you. Be honest about what you want and if you have a trusted stylist, hopefully they will return the favor so you can find the right color for your hair texture and skin tone.

2. Every curl has its own personality and that personality should be respected. The tighter the curl, the harder it is for the highlight to show up. “Otherwise, if you just weave them, they will look just like a frizziness in the hair, they will not look good, and they will look like the color is not into the curl. It will look just like brassiness.”- So Christo has said.

3. Because coloring can leave hair so dry and damaged, Christo recommends his line of Colorective shampoo and conditioner to help maintain color and prevent further damage.

4. Avoid ammonia. Christo uses vegetable based colors because curly hair takes color more easily than other textures. Though it tends to fade faster, Christo prevents that with the Colorective hair line which helps prolong the longevity of the color.

5. Another method that Christo uses to avoid color fade is his well known Smart Lights technique which skips the hairline and starts an inch behind so that the roots don’t come across so obviously once the hair starts to grow out.
